Morning Keynote: Ashanti Branch, Taking Off the Mask
Ashanti Branch, born and raised by a single mother on welfare in Oakland, California, took the road less traveled to get out of the ghetto and attended one of California’s premier engineering colleges, California Polytechnic - San Luis Obispo. Ashanti studied Civil Engineering and worked as a construction project manager in his first career. After tutoring struggling students and realizing his true passion was teaching, Mr. Branch changed careers. He had suddenly found the “fire” that was missing in his life and he hoped to ignite a similar enthusiasm in his young students. In 2004 as a first year middle school teacher, Ashanti started The Ever Forward Club to provide a support group for African American and Latino males, who were not achieving to the level of their potential. Since then, The Ever Forward Club has grown to serve both young men and women and become a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Ever Forward Club has helped 100% of its members graduate high school and 93% of them have gone on to attend college. Ashanti has spent 20 years mentoring youth and 10 of those years as a math teacher educating inner city youth. Today Ashanti will be sharing about his journey of personal transformation and leading us to discover our true and most real and vulnerable selves through an exercise called Taking Off the Mask.

Morning Keynote: Vishen Lakhiani, CEO of Mindvalley
Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Vishen Lakhiani founded Mindvalley in 2003 while he was living in New York, after discovering the benefits of mindfulness and meditation to help him cope with a stressful sales career. Mindvalley in the beginning was just a small e-commerce store that sold self-help programs and courses. “I started Mindvalley with $700 and a beat-up laptop in Starbucks,” is often how Vishen would begin the Mindvalley origin story. But in 2004, after he struggled to keep his US Visa, he moved back to Kuala Lumpur, at the height of a national brain drain and years before the birth of the startup ecosystem in Asia. And so, he made it his mission to build one of the best workplaces in the world in Malaysia, despite the odds. Today, Vishen leads a 200-strong team of over 40 nationalities under an award-winning company culture. In the past decade, Mindvalley has garnered a global reputation for being a leading edu-tech company, specializing in modern learning experiences and content, launching online academies and digital platforms that publish personal growth education in areas such as well-being, mindfulness, relationships, fitness, and entrepreneurship. Yet Vishen built Mindvalley with zero angel investors, venture capitalist money, or government grants. Their mission is to empower people to live healthier and happier lives, and unleash their fullest human potential and their tagline is Be Extraordinary. Vishen is determined to help revolutionize the global education system. His current goal is to launch a school for one billion people worldwide.
